Chestnuts roasting by an open fire...
popcorn...or corn period.
non-perishable?.. take some peppers and onions and potatoes and oil - mix with seasonings - wrap in foil - insert into coals for a while... plenty of sausages will survive w/o refrigeration... add them.take some bread, and put some cloves of garlic in oil and roast them till soft and sweet. spread over bread.take some apples - slice and mix with sugar, cinnamon - roastg'luck

I always liked the little apple or cherry pie things that you make with bread and pie filling. And popcorn of course.Athough BG's suggestions sound more creative... and filling.Add the popcorn as a snack. :)
